2006-current: Wordsmith & More – owner-manager providing online writing and editing services for business, government and the NFP sector.

Key achievements:

  • Over 6-7 years built online business with 70+ clients in Australia, China, Thailand and Malaysia
  • Gained invaluable insight and experience in a diverse range of industry sectors, government departments and businesses, including NFP, tourism, agriculture, education, holistic health
  • Facilitated and/or provided input into strategic planning for 10+ NFP organisations
  • Grant writing raised over $750k for community groups in northeast Victoria

2003-2006: Thinking Business – sub-contract project management and marketing.

Key achievements:

  • Mansfield Shire 2006 Commonwealth Games Warming Up for the Games event and hosted 2-day Kiribati team
    • Involved 70+ community groups, sporting organisations and schools in full day of ‘Warming Up’ activities
    • Involved community groups, schools and businesses hosting the Kiribati team, including official reception, dance/drumming workshops, touring, meals and accommodation
    • Was given the honour of running in the Torch Relay
  • Worked with president of the local community group to establish the Bonnie Doon Community Centre, including
    • Attracted funding for medi-centre, Internet access, youth mentoring program, childcare, short courses and community celebrations
    • Provided significant local employment and business opportunities at the Community Centre
    • 10 years later the Community Centre is an intrinsic part of the local community, now also running an op shop, book exchange and regular bush market

1996-1999: Policy Officer, Marketing, Cultural Development and Marketing Branch, Strategic Development Division, City of Melbourne.

Key achievements:

  • Established Melbourne’s first multi-lingual Visitor Information Centre and Melbourne Greeter program (volunteer tour guiding service based on Big Apple Greeters in NY)
    • Wrote and administered Tender for Visitor Centre fitout
    • Development significant partnerships with SBS Radio and migrant community groups
    • Managed the Official Opening
    • Retained program management responsibility for 3 years including 2 x FT staff and volunteers
  • Precinct Program – managed cooperative niche marketing program for city traders (around 7 active groups)
    • Reined in program which had gone ‘off the rails’
    • Groups achieved distinctive branding, capital works, promotional events and media coverage
    • Developed program newsletter, which later became the ‘City News’ sent to all ratepayers

1989-1996: Jigsaw Productions – sub-contract audiovisual production and event coordination in Australia and Malaysia.

Key achievements:

  • A/V producer and script writer in Malaysia
    • Improved production values and working conditions in multi-lingual workplace
    • Produced extraordinary A/Vs for the Malaysian government, some multi-lingual – 2 x shows received standing ovations
